The music of Tochter is the sound of an artist in awkward transition. I recorded this during the late summer/early fall of 2006. The sound is quite outdated and clumsy but you can hear the artistic jump from noise and collage to what Hollydrift is today. For some reason, there is a huge amount of emotional connection between me and this EP and that's why it's still available. While the music of Tochter contains the same type of overdriven sound present in the music of old Hollydrift, it offers more melodic forays into the static. A field recording of an American pioneer era textile machine, synthesizers and drum machine make an appearance on Tochter. Even though there's not much emptiness here, Tochter is considerably less complicated or complex than the Hollydrift music of yore. Try Tochter at moderate volume levels. A perfect background companion for work or home.

A word about the packaging of the Tochter EP CD:
Each CD copy of Tochter comes in a cover hand made by Mathyas. Each cover has been tea dyed for over a week and then dried in the Lake Michigan fog. After drying, each cover was hand stamped with text. Finally a piece of 100-year-old pattern cloth was afixed between the text. They look old. The image above displays the three versions of the cover. The first cover is called: "Mill Girl". The second cover is called: "Wednesday Chores". The third cover is called: "Welcome Home". These titles will be important when ordering your CD copy of Tochter.
